Last week on my Facebook page, I posted the following picture and tag:

Refined carbs have hidden sugar. This increases your sugar intake because you don’t realize how much you’re actually eating. Sugar has no protein, no vitamins, no minerals, no fat, and no fiber. It is full of empty calories. Without these accessory nutrients, the body cannot metabolize all of sugar that you intake. Plus, these missing nutrients become depleted in the body. The depleted nutrients plus increase in sugar will become fat in the body; which leads to obesity and malnutrition. Even obese individuals are starving to death because they do not have the nutrients that they need. #futureND #eattolive #holistichealth”
I was later asked a series of questions, which I am putting in to this post below. I absolutely LOVE looking older pictures of myself and one of the reasons I like for my clients to document their progress. You can tell by your improved, internal vital force that you’ve made strides in your health, but the visually ones seem to at times to be more encouraging.
This picture above was taken seven months after the death of my mother. Needless to say, I was not in a good place emotionally and was fighting to push through so much. Much of that push, or lack thereof, was nestled in consuming lots of refined cards hidden in processed foods which put tons of sugar in my body and manifested as FAT.
Let’s not focus on consumption of sugar, but the OVER-consumption of sugar that is caused by consuming refined carbs. Eating whole foods that contain sugar (such as fruit) is not the same as eating foods that are processed. There is no getting around that. Plus, eating whole, real foods you get the sugars from the fruit as well as the other nutrients in the fruit that help the body to metabolize the sugar. In refined, processed sugars those supplement nutrients have been removed HENCE making it harder for the body to metabolize sugar.
Looking for a list of REFINED SUGARS? Well, these HIDDEN sugars are inside of everything packaged and canned: Cookies, breads, pasta, tomato sauce, cereals, vegetables, and even packaged meat. I am not looking to put any particular company on the spotlight, as all these companies isolate these items from real food in order to preserve food, make food last, and to help feed people. Although, the method is harming the bodies of individuals, the idea behind it was to make food to last.
So what is the solution? The plain and simple one is to eat real, whole foods; which are typically obtained by sourcing your foods from local growers, farmers, butchers, etc. Taking the real ingredients and making items yourself. Reading labels becomes pivotal, but if you don’t know what you’re reading, that too can be overwhelming. If you are going to purchase and consume foods that are packaged, I would recommend getting a grocery lesson from a holistic practitioner who can educate you on the best choices.
Take away from this all, we can and will consume sugar. What is important is how much and from where are you getting the sugar from.
